Buying a Subaru
in Topeka

We help you choose the Subaru that suits your family and a snowy Topeka January. The model, the trim and your trade are all settled before you visit.

What is the first thing to know about buying a Subaru in Topeka?

Crosstrek, Forester or Outback is the choice here, and it is decided on packed snow. We sell all three. A ten-minute drive tells you more about the difference than any table.

The certified terms sit beside the new car so you can compare them. The trade is appraised from the VIN and the mileage before you leave home. Everything we agree is written down for you.

Confirm the car is here, book a time and ask for a name. Then you make the drive from Lawrence, Manhattan or Junction City once.

Buying a Subaru in Topeka, the full guide

1. Which fits you, the Crosstrek, Forester or Outback

ModelWhat it isWho it suits
CrosstrekCompact crossover with standard all-wheel driveTown driving, a higher seat, and gravel roads outside Topeka.
ForesterTall compact SUVHeadroom, wide doors for the car seats and a clear view out on a snowy morning.
OutbackMidsize wagonLong loads and real time on I-70, arriving relaxed.
AscentThree-row SUVA family of six or seven using the third row every week.
ImprezaCompact car with standard all-wheel driveCommutes to Lawrence or across town, with all-wheel drive in a car that is easy to park.

All of them share the same Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive layout, so the choice is about size. The Crosstrek is the easy park, and the Forester takes the car seats and the cargo. The Outback is the long load and the long drive, and the Ascent is the third row.

Trim changes comfort more than it changes what the car can do. The same Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and EyeSight come on the base trim as on the top one. The trims differ in seats, roof rails and the sound system.

Tell us the week you drive and the right size is usually obvious. If you are between two models, we have both out front. You drive them back to back on the same loop, with a stretch of rough pavement in it.

Our finance team gets down to business straight away and finds a plan that fits your household. Every term is explained in plain words, as often as you need it. That is our own commitment, and you can hold us to it. It holds whether you buy a new Subaru or one from our used inventory.

You can start the application online before you visit, which takes a few minutes at home. Bring the three documents with you and the paperwork on the day is short. All financing is subject to credit approval.

A loan and a lease are two different agreements and we walk you through both. What decides it is the miles you drive in a year and how long you tend to keep a car. Whichever you choose, the whole agreement is read with you at the desk before anything is signed. Your trade is appraised and written down on its own, apart from the Subaru you are choosing.

3. Subaru all-wheel drive on Kansas winter roads

Your driveWhat does the workWhat it means for you

A wet on-ramp in heavy rainAll-wheel driveTraction under acceleration is where you feel it most.
Gravel and farm tracksAll-wheel driveThe reason so many rural Kansas drivers end up in one.
Stopping on iceTires and ABSAll-wheel drive helps you go, and these help you stop.
Cornering on iceWinter tiresThey change this far more than the drivetrain does.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is engaged at all times, without any extra action required by the driver. It continuously delivers power to all four wheels. If a wheel slips, power is instantaneously transferred to the wheels that have the most grip.

Stopping distance comes from the tires and the ABS. A Subaru on winter tires stops and turns in snow. That is why we measure tread at every visit. A spare set of wheels with winter tires is a smart choice for a Kansas owner.

Ten minutes on a wide, empty, snow-covered lot shows you X-MODE at work. It electronically optimizes the engine, transmission and other systems for increased traction in slippery conditions.

On I-70, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering can maintain a set distance from the vehicle ahead. It also helps keep the car centered in its lane. The highway is part of your test drive, so you can try both.

EyeSight sees with cameras, and after any windshield replacement we recalibrate them here.

5. Subaru certified pre-owned versus used

What certification addsThe standardWhy it helps
152-point safety inspectionAnything below Subaru's standard is repaired or replaced before saleSo a certified car has been checked front to back.
Powertrain coverage7 years or 100,000 miles, factory backed, no deductibleThe coverage travels with the car.
Recalls and the next serviceClosed and done before saleThe car arrives with nothing outstanding.

Certification buys three concrete things. First, the 152-point safety inspection, with any item repaired or replaced if it does not meet Subaru standards. Second, a factory-backed 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain vehicle service agreement, with no deductible. Third, a car that arrives with every open recall closed. 97% of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. The certification program is built on that record.

The 7 years count from the original in-service date. Your purchase does not restart them. Two certified cars side by side can carry very different amounts of coverage. We give you the in-service date on each before you compare them.

We sell both kinds, so you can compare the same body style. A certified Forester sits beside an uncertified one. Once you have seen the inspection sheet and the in-service date on each, the choice is easy.

6. Subaru hybrid, electric or gas

If this is youThe one that fitsWhy
You park on a driveway or in a garageThe SolterraHome charging makes an electric car easy to live with.
You park on the streetA hybridNo charging routine, and the Crosstrek Hybrid and Forester Hybrid are both in the range.
You drive long rural distancesGasRange and quick fill-ups still win on the long drives west.
You want better fuel economy and no new habitsA hybridIt runs itself. You change nothing about how you drive.

For most Topeka weeks the hybrid math is straightforward. If your driving is town errands and stop-and-go, the Forester and Crosstrek hybrids do their best work there. Long steady highway runs shrink the gap, and a gas Outback settles into the long drives west without a thought.

The all-electric Subarus come down to one question. Can you charge where you park overnight? If yes, an electric Subaru covers a Topeka day with ease, winter range dip included. If not, a hybrid is the easier fit, because it asks nothing new of your week.

Drive one with us, and tell us where the car spends the night. That answer usually settles it.

The oil and rotation fall every 6 months or 6,000 miles. The 12-month visit adds the cabin filter and the full inspection. Every visit includes a multi-point inspection. The sheet that comes back with the car tells you what is wearing before it fails. That turns repairs into scheduled visits.

If coming in to collect the car does not suit you, we bring it to you. The delivery radius reaches Manhattan, Junction City and a good deal further.

Manhattan or Junction CityOver an hour westConfirm the car and the financing before the drive.
HiawathaAbout an hour northPre-qualify online before you leave.

Call ahead, confirm the exact car is here and ask for it to be pulled up and ready. Do that, and the visit is a test drive and a signature instead of an afternoon. A drive from Manhattan deserves that.

Ask us for a walk-around video before you commit to the drive. Tell us roughly when you will arrive, and the car is out front when you get here. If you would rather skip the drive, we deliver a new Subaru to your address at no charge. Delivery reaches anywhere inside a two hundred mile radius.

Bring your driver's license and proof of insurance. If the car you are trading is financed, bring your lender's payoff letter, and any approval you arranged yourself. That is everything we need to move quickly.

11. Subaru warranty coverage and what it runs from

CoverageTermWhat it covers
Basic3 years or 36,000 milesThe whole car, from the original in-service date.
Powertrain5 years or 60,000 milesEngine, transmission and the all-wheel-drive system.
Wear items3 years or 36,000 milesBrake pad and shoe linings, clutch linings and wiper blades.
Certified pre-owned powertrain7 years or 100,000 milesFrom the original date, on cars that pass certification.

Two terms run from the day a Subaru is first sold. That is why a three-year-old certified car carries four more years on the major components.

Wear items have a line of their own, and the covered list is exactly three things. Everything outside that list is maintenance, and we tell you which is which before any work starts.

After a hard Kansas winter, we look first at the battery, the wipers and washers and the all-wheel-drive system. Basic and powertrain coverage reach most of it, and wiper blades sit on the wear item line. We tell you what still applies to your car, and we test the battery in year three.

If you already own a Subaru, ask us about the Subaru Trade Up Advantage Program before anything else. An eligible owner receives a personalized offer tailored to them. You can further customize it to fit your exact style and preferences. The new Subaru comes with a comprehensive new warranty. We check eligibility from your VIN.

For any other make, value it online before you come in. Bring the service history, both keys and the title or the payoff letter. The appraisal stands on its own. We write it down as its own line, so neither one leans on the other.

What happens after you buy a Subaru
at Briggs Subaru of Topeka?

What people mentionIn their words
Explained the options before doing the work “I had a tire that was low air pressure I drove over to the service dept And explained my concern. Sure enough , there was a screw embedded. The service guy named Tyler explained the options. Lucky enough the tire could be repaired. Thanks Skyler for fixing my tire”Joan Silovsky, 5-star Google review
Told us what the car needed at that mileage “I had a great experience during my recent service visit. I went in for a routine oil change, and the team let me know that an engine flush was recommended for my mileage. I really appreciated that because I was not aware it was needed, and I am glad they brought it to my attention. The customer service was really good. The service advisors were friendly, communicative, and very clear about the timeline. They told me the car would be done in about an hour or so. It took just a little bit over an hour, which was absolutely fine and no hassle at all. The vehicle felt great and drove normally after the service. The waiting area is clean and quiet, making it a comfortable place to sit. They offer free water, coffee, snacks for a donation, and they even have water and treats available for dogs, which is a really nice touch. I highly recommend their service department.”Paul Leiva, 5-star Google review
Fitted the car in, and a warranty repair the next day “I called for a repair and to schedule was a week out but I could leave it and it would get worked in as they could. Not only did they get the first car done that day but they were able to make a warranty repair the very next day on a second car. Kudos to Tyler who made that happen. Nothing but good things to say about the service we received.”gordon Beightel, 5-star Google review

About the dealership

Where is Briggs Subaru of Topeka located?

We are at 3115 S Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66611. Look for the Subaru sign at 3115.

What are Briggs Subaru of Topeka's opening hours?

Sales is open Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 7:00pm. On Friday and Saturday it is open 8:30am to 6:00pm, and it is closed Sunday. The service department runs Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday 7:00am to 2:00pm.

Who owns Briggs Subaru of Topeka?

Russ and Ilene Briggs, who have been in business together for over 35 years. We are part of the Briggs Auto Group.

How is Briggs Subaru of Topeka rated by customers?

We hold 4.7 stars from 1,749 Google reviews.

What areas does Briggs Subaru of Topeka serve?

Topeka first, with Lawrence a short drive east. Customers come from Manhattan, Junction City and Hiawatha as well.

Buying new

What is the difference between a Subaru Crosstrek, Forester and Outback?

They are three sizes of the same idea. The Crosstrek is the smallest and easiest to park. The Forester is boxy and tall, with the most headroom of the three and an easy view out. The Outback is a midsize wagon with the longest load space and the lowest roof. It is the most settled of the three on a long highway run.

Which Subaru suits a family?

For four people, the Forester or the Outback covers it comfortably. If you need seven seats and not five plus a full trunk, that is the Ascent.

Which new Subaru models does Briggs Subaru of Topeka sell?

We sell the whole Subaru range: the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Ascent, Impreza, WRX, BRZ and Solterra. It includes the newer Trailseeker and Uncharted, and the Crosstrek and Forester hybrids.

Who is the Crosstrek right for?

One or two people, and anyone who parks downtown. The Crosstrek carries the same Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and EyeSight as the rest of the range. It comes in the size that parks most easily. Sit in one beside a Forester, and the difference you notice is space.

Can I see several Subaru models side by side?

Yes, and it is the fastest way to choose. Sitting in a Forester and an Outback back to back usually settles the decision in about five minutes. Photographs cannot make that comparison for you.

Financing and paperwork

How does financing work at Briggs Subaru of Topeka?

We start the work as soon as you sit down and find a plan that suits your household. Every term is explained in plain words. You can begin the application online before you visit, and all financing is subject to credit approval.

What should I plan for beyond the car itself?

Insurance, fuel and tires are the running costs to plan for. On an all-wheel-drive car the tires wear at a similar rate. They are usually replaced as a set of four, so plan on a set.

Does all-wheel drive cost more to run?

Driving all four wheels uses slightly more fuel than driving two, and tires are generally replaced as a set. Both are modest, and both are part of what makes the car sure-footed on a Kansas winter morning.

Can I get finance sorted before I visit?

Yes. Start the conversation by phone or online before you drive over, especially from Lawrence, Manhattan or further out. It shortens the visit to a test drive and a signature.

Used and certified pre-owned

What does Subaru Certified Pre-Owned include?

Every certified vehicle passes a 152-point safety inspection. Any item that does not meet Subaru standards is repaired or replaced. Certification adds a factory-backed 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain vehicle service agreement, with no deductible.

Is a certified pre-owned Subaru worth choosing?

It depends on how long you plan to keep it. Keep the car for years and the remaining powertrain coverage does real work for you. Keep it for a shorter time and the 152-point inspection still does. It is the reason the car was checked front to back before it went on sale.

Is there a deductible on a certified Subaru?

No. A covered claim under the certified powertrain coverage carries no deductible. There is nothing to find before the repair is done.

How long do Subarus last?

97% of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. A service file kept up to date keeps an individual Subaru in that company.

What kind of used cars does Briggs Subaru of Topeka have?

Our used inventory runs from recent certified Subarus through to trade-ins of every make. Tell us what you are after, and we show you the matches.

Trade-in and selling

Can I trade in my current car?

Yes. Bring the title or the payoff letter, both keys and the service records. We appraise your car while you are out driving ours.

Can I sell my car to Briggs Subaru without buying one?

Yes. We buy vehicles outright as well as taking them in trade. Tell us which of the two you would prefer and we handle it either way.

Visiting and test drives

Do I need an appointment to test drive?

You are welcome to walk in. Calling ahead means the specific trim you want to drive is ready when you arrive.

Is Briggs Subaru of Topeka open on Sunday?

No. We are open six days a week. On Saturday sales is open until 6:00 PM and service until 2:00 PM. Both are closed on Sunday.

What should I do before visiting?

Tell us which Subarus you want to see and when, so they are pulled out and warm when you arrive. Start the finance application if you would like the paperwork short on the day. Bring your license, your insurance card and both keys for anything you are trading.

Service, parts and ownership

Can I book a Subaru service online?

Yes. We offer online service scheduling that works from anywhere, at any time, so you can book outside opening hours.

Are the technicians Subaru-trained?

Our service technicians have extensive training and a deep understanding of Subaru vehicles. They work with the latest tools and technology for the brand.

What time does service close on Saturday?

2:00pm. The lane opens at 7:00 AM on Saturday, so a morning drop-off gets the work done before we close. Our sales floor stays open until 6:00pm.

How quickly can I get a service appointment?

Call us or book online and we tell you the next opening in the lane. Booking ahead also means the parts can be on the shelf before your car is on the lift. That is usually where the time goes.

Do I have to replace all four tires on a Subaru?

Generally yes. All four wheels are driven, so the tires wear at a similar rate. They are usually replaced as a set of four. Ask us which tires suit the wheel size on your car, because our tire center carries all the major brands.

Safety and technology

What is Subaru EyeSight?

EyeSight Driver Assist Technology uses dual-color cameras mounted near the rearview mirror. They continuously scan the road ahead for potential hazards. EyeSight tracks traffic movement, optimizes cruise control and warns you if you sway outside your lane. Subaru has sold more than a million EyeSight-equipped vehicles.

Does EyeSight brake the car for me?

EyeSight is an extra set of eyes on the road and, if need be, an extra foot on the brake. It is driver assistance, and you stay in charge of the car.

Does EyeSight detect pedestrians and cyclists?

Every Subaru has dual cameras scanning ahead. On select models, a third camera widens the field of view to further enhance pedestrian and cyclist detection. We show you which setup the specific trim has.

Does EyeSight help when reversing?

Yes. In reverse it can detect vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists approaching from the side, even when your view is blocked. It alerts you audibly and visually to which side they are coming from.

Does all-wheel drive help on ice?

It helps you go. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive continuously delivers power to all four wheels. That is what you want pulling away on packed snow or a wet on-ramp. Stopping distance comes from the tires and the ABS, and proper winter tires make the biggest difference there.

Electric vehicles

Does Briggs Subaru of Topeka sell electric or hybrid Subarus?

Yes. The fully electric Solterra and the Crosstrek and Forester hybrids are all part of the range we sell.

Should I buy an electric Subaru or a hybrid?

The question that decides it is where you park at night. Home charging makes an electric car easy to live with. Without it, plan a weekly charging stop. A hybrid asks nothing new of your routine.

How does a Kansas winter affect electric range?

Cold weather reduces range on any electric vehicle, so we work out your commute against a January morning with you.

Warranty and trade-ins

What is the Subaru new-vehicle warranty?

Basic coverage runs three years or 36,000 miles, from the original in-service date. Five years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain. Certified Pre-Owned adds a 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain vehicle service agreement.

What is the Subaru Trade Up Advantage Program?

It is a Subaru program for owners who may be ready to move into a newer Subaru. An eligible owner receives a personalized offer and can further customize it to fit their exact style and preferences. The new Subaru comes with a comprehensive new warranty. Ask us to check your eligibility from the VIN.

How do I get a fair trade-in number?

Value the car online and bring the service records and both keys. The appraisal follows the condition and the history of the car, and we put it in writing for you.

More buyer questions

Can a first-time buyer or someone rebuilding credit finance a Subaru here?

Yes. Bring proof of income, proof of residence and a license. The finance team reviews each application on its own and tells you what works before anything is signed.

Can I buy from Briggs Subaru without living in Topeka?

Yes, and we do it regularly. Confirm the car and the number in writing, and handle the application online. Ask for a hold, and the visit from Manhattan or Kansas City becomes a drive and a signature.

How reliable are Subarus long-term?

97% of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. On any one car the oil and rotation history tell you the most, and we pull the records for you.

Questions about the models

Is Subaru offering 0% financing right now?

Subaru runs programs on select models some months and they change by month and by region. Name the exact model you want, and we tell you what applies on the day you buy.

Where is the nearest Subaru dealer to Topeka?

Right here, at 3115 S Kansas Ave. If you are coming from Lawrence or Manhattan, let us know first and the car is ready when you arrive.

People also ask

What should I check on a used Subaru before buying?

Ask for the oil and coolant service history and, on a CVT car, when the fluid was last serviced. A Subaru with its oil changes kept up is a sound used buy. We pull the service file and run the VIN for open recalls on any used Subaru before you drive it.

Which Subaru model is the best to buy?

Start with how much room you need, because the range is largely one drivetrain in three sizes. The Crosstrek suits one or two people and tight parking. The Forester gives the most usable space and the best view out. The Outback carries the most and settles down best on a long drive. We park all three together so you can sit in them back to back.

Which Subaru model has the best reliability record?

96% of Foresters, Outbacks and Crosstreks sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. For the Imprezas, the figure is 94%. On any used Subaru the maintenance history tells you the most, and we pull it for you.

Do Subarus hold their value well?

Yes, and standard all-wheel drive is a large part of the reason in a state with real winters. 97% of Subaru vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. Cars that last that long stay in demand. Our online valuation is there for you to test any offer against before you come in.
