Not much needed to change for the 2022 model year, but Subaru did decide to introduce a special new trim level called Onyx Edition. This new version of the crossover offers exclusive design cues inside and out, with a black-finish exterior and unique interior style, plus a great selection of features for its price point - which is right in the middle, between the Premium and Limited trims.

Powered by a 2.4L turbocharged BOXER engine, the 2022 Ascent is capable of generating up to 260 horsepower alongside 277 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain also features a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. It achieves 21 miles per gallon through the city and 27 mpg on the highway with 18" wheels, or 20/26 mpg with 20" wheels.

As mentioned, the Subaru Ascent offers some of the brand's finest features and technologies, perhaps the best of the lineup altogether. This includes things like its massive panoramic moonroof, a whopping 19 cup and bottle holders throughout the cabin, standard EyeSight suite of driver-assistive safety tech, plus Subaru STARLINK Multimedia with things like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and much more.
